    Diplo States That Rihanna & Nicki Minaj Could Have Sung 'Lean On'

    Major Lazer – aka Diplo’s group – has revealed that his smash hit “Lean On” was at one time turned down by both superstar Rihanna and hip-hop princess Nicki Minaj.

    Sitting down with Time Magazine recently, Diplo revealed that the song was originally written by MØ as a slow reggae jam – a demo of which leaked online recently – before it was pitched to both Rih and Nicki.

    As it turns out, however, Diplo views the rejection as a blessing in disguise. In his words:
     
    MØ sounds better than anybody was going to sound on that record. All we want to do is make the records feel like classics, even though they’re feeling progressive and strange to a normal ear.
     
    I can’t lie – I’m kind of happy about this news. As much as I love both Rihanna and Nicki, and they definitely do well with any island-vibed song, I really can’t see either of them singing this tribal smash as well as MØ can – somewhat ironic given that out of the three, she’s the only white girl in the group.

    I think Rihanna would have been a really good choice. She would've added something to it that would make the song more pumped up and explicitly fun. Nicki's version would have been really good too. Even though her vocals as a singer are up to par to Rih and Mo, she would've made up for that with one of her dope ass verses. She would've killed it tbh. Especially if they probably added a bridge or something for her verse./

    Idk, I feel like the song just really doesn't fit with what Rih's doing production wise atm. :/ If it had come out around the time of 'We Found Love' or even 'Diamonds' it would have made sense, but it's sooo different from BBHMM that I don't think she could have pulled it off. Nicki could have been good if she'd actually tried, but you know she would have come up with some shitty verse and put no effort in like she did with that new Jeremih song she jumped on. :vacuum:

    True. But it would still be fun to hear her on it. Lol.

    I hate they she doesn't try as hard on the more club sound than the hip-hop one.     :vacuum:
