The Top Charting Songs of Ten Years Ago

I can't speak for everyone, but for me personally 2007 has always gone down in history as one of my favourite years ever in pop music. It may have something to do with the fact that I was verging on teenagehood at the time and just beginning to understand the significance of music in my life, but I'd argue that the year was also a good one overall, evidenced by the ongoing popularity of artists debuting or reinventing in 2007 like Rihanna, Justin Timberlake and Kanye West.

One of the most interesting things about music in 2007 looking back is just how varied it was. On the one hand, there was tail end of the power pop trend of the early 2000s which allowed artists like Avril Lavigne, P!nk and Kelly Clarkson to dominate the charts; but on the other, Timbaland was revolutionising the game with his unique brand of R&B, bringing companions Justin Timberlake and Nelly Furtado along for the ride. The year also includes some of the catchiest (and oftentimes most annoying) songs in living memory, including Sean Kingston's 'Beautiful Girls', MIMS' 'This Is Why I'm Hot' and Soulja Boy Tell'em's 'Crank That (Soulja Boy)' all sticking in our heads long after they left the charts.

Take a trip down memory lane by checking out the songs and their peak positions below, and don't forget to let us know your favourite track from 2007 in the comments section!

I feel so old rn. Nelly Furtado's SAY IT RIGHT used to b my jam. Now when I listen to it, I can only think of the poor production. :flush:

I was always annoyed with "Smack That". It was everywhere and I was so fucking fed up with this song that it gets on my nerves tot his day.

Irreplaceable.... B'day was such a good Beyonce era when it comes to music. This song is flawless :hail:

Never been much of a fan of Gwen, but I remember jamming to MSE. (But then again... Akon used to be everywhere). Akon is like the Lil Yachty of 00s

Fergie's "Fergalicious" and "London Bridge" were better than Glamorous. 06/07 were such good years for her tho. Now she's dead. :cypher:

Avril's Girlfriend.... still one of my favorite songs by her. I miss those times when she was a punk muthafucking princess

And Umbrella. The song which changed EVERYTHING. Good Girl Gone Bad was such a good album :hail:

Yasss! Kelly Clarkson's NEVER AGAIN! This has to be my fave song by her. I don't like the album it was on, but the song is just perfect.

I used to have Crank That as my phone ringtone

    I hate Sean Kingston.

The Way I Are - I remember the times of Timbaland. He was everywhere. Apologize, Say It Right, If We Ever Meet Again, We Belong To The Music.... such bops. Where is he?!?! Nelly Furtado should hit him up asap.

HSM! Damn... I am fangirling. I used to stan so hard xd I was such a Disney kid (still am and I own it) :dealwithit:

Gimme More! Even though I prefer Circus to Blackout, this is an undeniable iconic banger. Wonder if she still can top it.

"Low" used to be my phone ringtone as well xd

Bleeding Love... Leona was relevant back then. Better In Time, Forgive Me. Then she released a few not successful albums which were all mediocre. Too bad for her. Hope she can revive her career one day, tho time flies.

I didn't realize that Girlfriend is SO old, I remember listening to it with my sister everytime

    What Time Is It >>>>>>>>>>

'Girlfriend' was so much fun, but I remember me and my friends used to listen to the bilingual versions more than the original English one. At one point I knew the entire chorus in Japanese!

Did you seriously just call 'Say It Right' poorly produced?

I agree with you on Timbo, he needs to jump off producing every single song on the Empire soundtrack because we 100% need a revival of his amazing production!

I think 'The Sweet Escape' might be my favorite Gwen song ever! What an ANTHEM :bop:

Nelly Furtado was always popular here, but 'Say It Right' was really another level for her career, i still listen to this like it's a new song  :hail:

What about 'Girlfriend'? Definitely one of the most important songs of my teenage years! Tbh 'The Best Damn Thing' is one of my favorite albums ever :yaskween:

2007 is definitely one of the best years in pop music. Besides the bible 'Blackout' there was also a lot of incredible albums like 'X' by Kylie Minogue, 'Dignity' by Hilary Duff, 'Change' by Sugababes, 'Spirit' by Leona Lewis, 'My December' by Kelly Clarkson, and a lot more that i could spend the whole day talking about. Today we have to deal with things like The Shitsmokers and Bruno Mars, which is kinda depressing to me

I agree 100% with 'Say It Right', songs like that and 'Gimme More' sound just as fresh today as they did ten years ago which is amazing! :hail: I totally forgot about Kylie and Hilary, if only they'd had some US hits that I could have put on this list. :'(
