Big Time Rush (Unreleased Infopost)

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, this is my first post here! There isn’t a lot of info or talk about Big Time Rush’s unreleased songs, so I wanted to share all the information I have, and also so we can have a thread to talk about them! I’ve mainly been using PRO repertories such as ASCAP, SGAE, GEMA, etc. to gather info, but some titles also come from interviews, tweets, writer/producer websites, all over the place, really. I hope this is useful for anyone else who likes them! I used Underclass King’s list of unreleased Avril Lavigne songs on Avril Bandaids as a template for the list format.

If anyone has any info that’s not on here, or that’s inconsistent with mine, please PM me!

Key:

Green = Songs that have leaked in full

Blue = Snippet leaked or shared by member(s) of the band

Red = Given to another artist, with BTR’s version not having leaked

Early show era/BTR

  • “2 in the Morning” - Written by Jimmy Burney, Alex Christensen, Bobby Kuya, Sammy Kuya, and Jebediah Harper. Registered in APRA AMCOS with the Work ID GW43897371. Given to/also recorded by the girl group Girlicious who released it on their album Rebuilt in 2010.
  • “A Shot in the Dark” - Writers unknown. This was featured in the TV show (episode “Big Time Terror”) but never fully released. Two versions have leaked: A LQ/demo mix (leaked on Tumblr in 2013) and the full, studio mix (leaked in 2019) – the latter has an additional outro and generally sounds more finished.
  • “Blink” - Written by Eric Sanicola, Damon Sharpe, and Shanna Crooks. Registered in ASCAP with the Work ID 883674330. Later recorded by the English duo U.V.U.K. who released it as a single in 2012, and later by Cascada, who released it in 2014.
  • “Have a Good Time” - Writers unknown. A song recorded in 2009, that was played by Carlos during a Facebook livestream in 2016. Eric Bellinger also recorded a (writers?) demo, which I have only been able to find in a single YouTube video.
  • “Intermission” - Written by Travis Garland, Nick Furlong, Adam Cherrington, and Aaron Pearce. Registered in ASCAP with the Work ID 880830201. A writers demo by Travis Garland was leaked in 2011, and BTR’s version was leaked in November that same year on Tumblr.
  • “One in a Million” - Writers unknown. Mentioned by James on Twitter in July 2010.
  • “One More Moment” - Written by Bryan Todd, who mentioned the song on Twitter throughout 2009-2010; it’s also listed on his website under his discography.
  • “So What” - Writers unknown. Logan mentioned this song in a 2010 Popstar interview, saying he recorded it by himself. It was leaked in 2021.
  • “Story of My Life” - Written by Kevin Rudolf and Jacob Kasher. Registered in ASCAP with the Work ID 881855698.
  • “Welcome to Hollywood” - Written by Andreas Carlsson and Bryan Todd. Carlsson wrote the song for BTR, and had Simon Curtis (who was going to be in the band in the very early stages) record a demo, which is available online. The song was later given to Disney star Mitchel Musso who released it as a single in 2010.
  • “Wings of a Dream” - Written by Matthew Gerrard, Jay Landers, and Robbie Nevil. Registered in ISWC with Big Time Rush as performer. This song was performed by Victoria Justice and Simon Curtis in the film Spectacular! and released on the soundtrack. It’s hard to say to what extent BTR ultimately has to with it, but worth mentioning, especially because of Simon.

Elevate

  • “Anything” - writers unknown. One of the many demos leaked on Tumblr in 2013. Ryan Tedder also recorded a (writers?) demo of this song, which was leaked in 2011.
  • “Anything Goes” - Unreleased song mentioned/briefly played by Carlos, Cody Williams, and Tekneek in a YouTube video in April 2011.
  • “Cruise Control” - Written by Cody Williams, Charley Greenberg, Cory Gaddis, Tekneek, Wes Jones, and Mat Sherman. This was leaked on Soundcloud in 2012, and later found and spread in March 2013. Registered in Warner Chappell Music. A writers demo by Cody Williams was also leaked in 2011.
  • “Heart on Fire” - Written by Lil Eddie, Chris Rojas, Damon Sharpe, and Carlos. Registered to ASCAP with the work ID 883754760.
  • “Heya (Speed of Light)” - Written by Matt Squire, Victoria Horn, and David Archuleta. Registered to ASCAP with the Work ID 882755409.
  • "Impossible" - Written by Daniel Bedingfield, James Maslow, Carlos Pena, and Logan Henderson. The band has mentioned working with Bedingfield a few times, including Tweets from July 2011, and in the 4/28/2022 BTR livestream no TikTok, Kendall confirmed the title of the song was "Impossible".
  • “In the Future” - Written and produced by Orange Factory Music (OFM). In August 2011, someone added “Superstar”, “Confetti Falling”, and “In The Future” to the discography section on Orange Factory Music’s Wikipedia page, unfortunately without a source -- However, we did not learn about Confetti Falling until 2013, and they have mentioned in interviews that it was originally recorded for Elevate back in 2011. Far too great of a coincidence to ignore (OFM probably had a discography section on their website at the time or something like that)
  • “Party Love” - Written by James Maslow, Toby Gad, and August Rigo. Registered to ASCAP with the Work ID 883544372.
  • “Risk It All” - Written by James Maslow, Carlos Pena, Lucas Secon, Wayne Hector, Carsten Mortenson, and Matthew Prime. Registered to ASCAP with the Work ID 883596766
  • “We Are the Night” - Written by Carlos Pena, Charley Greenberg, Tekneek, Cody Taylor Williams, Greg Bonnick, Leon Prince, and Hayden Chapman. It was sold to Korean group MYNAME who released it on their debut album We Are Myname. BTR’s version is unleaked. Registered to GEMA with the Work ID 12170551.
  • “When You Were Mine” - Written by James Maslow, Chris Rojas, and Lindy Robbins. Registered to ASCAP with the Work ID 883566679.
  • “Words Mean Nothing” - Writers unknown. A demo recorded by Kendall circulated in late 2011, had a 17-second snippet leaked in 2012, and was one of the many demos leaked on Tumblr in 2013.
  • “Worldwide” (Spanglish) - Written by Lil Eddie, Chris Rojas, and Emily Phillips. The band has performed this live, and they also recorded a studio version in 2011, from which a 17-second snippet was leaked in 2011-2012.
  • “Young Love” - Written by Jess Cates, Tim McEwan, and Deekay. It was sold to the Irish duo Jedward, who released it as a single from their third album, Young Love. BTR’s version was one of the many demos leaked on Tumblr in 2013.

Windows Down/Summer 2012 era

  • “Midnight Somewhere” - Written by Kendall Schmidt and unknown writers/producers. Before the release of “Windows Down”, the label asked all four members to each write a song, and they would choose one to become the summer single for 2012. All four were rejected and the label instead bought “Windows Down” from Kesha. First mentioned in a Koffee with Kendall episode by Stephen Glickman, and the first minute or so was played during the 4/28/2022 TikTok livestream.
  • 3 unknown songs (presumably) written by James, Carlos, and Logan respectively for single candidates.
  • "She Drives"/"Drive" - Written and produced by Nick “RAS” Furlong. The vocals for this song were partially recorded by Logan. RAS shared previews in multiple Ustreams throughout late 2011/early 2012, one of which was leaked onto Tumblr in January 2012. After a lot of fan pressure/harassment, he ended up putting together a remix using the unfinished vocals, which he posted on Facebook in 2013.
  • Unknown song ("Wherever You Are"/"Falling Apart") - written and produced by Nick “RAS” Furlong. Presumably recorded and leaked (summer 2012) from another one of RAS’ Ustreams. The leaked snippet is 30 seconds and features only Logan singing.

24/seven

  • “All Over the World” - Written by James Maslow, Carlos Pena, Jeremy Thurber, and Daniel Carlisle. Registered in SGAE with the Work ID 13.609.843.
  • “3 2 1” – Written by Kendall Schmidt, James Maslow, Carlos Pena, Damon Sharpe, and Eric Sanicola. It written with the TV show in mind and later sold to the Korean band SHINee, who released it as a single in 2013. Registered in ASCAP with the Work ID 891373448.
  • “7,000,000,000” - Written by Carlos Pena, Mitch Allan, Jason Evigan, and Damon Sharpe. Registered to ASCAP with the Work ID 887926852.
  • “As Long as I Believe” - Written by James Maslow and unknown writers. Mentioned by James in a Twist! Magazine interview in 2013.
  • “Can’t Get Enough” - Written by James Maslow, Carlos Pena, Lee DeWyze, Marty James, and Chris DeStefano. Registered to ASCAP with the Work ID 885157939.
  • “Change for You” - Written by Sam Hollander, Martin Johnson, and Matt Squire. Registered to ASCAP with the Work ID 88483123.
  • “Do It All Again” - Written by Jacob Kasher, Matt Squire, Johan Carlsson, Jeff Halavacs, and Francisca Hall. Sold to the boy band Emblem3 who released it on the deluxe edition of their album Nothing to Lose in July 2013. BTR’s version was one of the many demos leaked on Tumblr in 2013.
  • “Don’t Stop - Writers unknown. One of the many demos leaked online on Tumblr in 2013.
  • “Everyday Girl” - Written by Kendall Schmidt, Ashley Gorley, and Chris DeStefano. Registered to ASCAP with the work ID 885157933. One of the many demos leaked on Tumblr in 2013.
  • “Featuring You” - Written by Kendall Schmidt, Logan Henderson, and unknown writers (possibly Orange Factory Music based on the filename of the original leak). One of the many demos leaked on Tumblr in 2013.
  • “First Time” - Writers unknown. One of the many demos leaked on Tumblr in 2013.
  • “Get It While the Gettin’s Good” - Written by Claude Kelly, Emily Wright, Mitch Allan, Jason Evigan, and Austin Bis. Formerly registered in BMI.
  • “Miss Moving On”/”Sin Tu Amor” - Written by Lindy Robbins, Jason Evigan, Allan Mitch, and Julia Cavazos. Registered to ASCAP with the work ID 885279957, w/ Big Time Rush listed as a performer alongside Fifth Harmony, who released the song as their debut single in 2013. While this might have been a cover or remix or something like that, it is also possible that BTR cut the song before it was given to 5H (yes, really)
  • “Music Surf - Written by Logan Henderson, Damon Sharpe, and Dave Richard Bassett. Sold to the Japanese boy band All City Steppers who released it on their debut album SEXY VIRGIN RIOT. Registered to ASCAP with the Work ID 88684578.
  • “My Song for You” - Written by Carlos Pena, Jimmy Burney, and Dave Richard Bassett. Registered to ASCAP with the work ID 884773038 and was one of the many demos leaked on Tumblr in 2013.
  • “Never Too Young” - Written by James Maslow, Dan Book, Alexei Misoul, and Charles Manning. Registered to ASCAP with the Work ID 901272134. Released by MattyB as a single ft. James Maslow in 2013. This song has the same writing credits as “Amazing” and James’ parts sound just like a BTR song; kind of an educated guess on my part but I do think worth listing.
  • “Next Step” - Written/produced by Kendall Schmidt, Logan Henderson, Matthew Thiessen, and Brian Lee. One of the many demos leaked on Tumblr in 2013.
  • “Red Light”/”Redlight, Greenlight” - writers unknown. The song circulated throughout 2012-2013 until the demo, recorded by Kendall and Logan, was leaked in 2014.
  • “Rich Girl” - Written by Kendall Schmidt, Ashley Gorley, Chris DeStefano, and Damon Sharpe. Registered to ASCAP with the Work ID 885157937. It was one of the many demos leaked on Tumblr in 2013, and was later sold to the Japanese band All City Steppers, who released it on their debut album SEXY VIRGIN RIOT as “Witch”.
  • “Right Now” - Writers unknown. Carlos used a 30-second snippet as background music on an Instagram video in 2016, saying it was an old BTR song that was never released, and that he and James recorded it.
  • “Right on Time” - Written by James Maslow, Dan Book, Alexei Misoul, and Charles Manning. Registered in ISWC with code T-916.744.300-7 and MattyB listed as a performer.
  • “Stars Align” – Written by Kendall and Toby Gad, registered to ASCAP under Big Time Rush, work ID 886219645. This is almost certainly the same song as "Parallel", which Kendall released with Heffron Drive in 2014.
  • “Tip of Your Tongue” - Written by Kendall Schmidt, Ashley Gorley, and Chris DeStefano. Registered to ASCAP with the Work ID 885157936.
  • “Unarmed” - Written by Kendall Schmidt, Carlos Pena, Logan Henderson, and Toby Gad. Registered to ASCAP with the work ID 888225164. This song was given to the NZ boy band Titanium who released it on their album All for You 2.0.
  • “Unnatural” - Written by Carlos Pena, Ashley Gorley, and Chris DeStefano. Registered to ASCAP with the Work ID 885157932.

Unknown era songs

  • “Doctor” - Written by Jacob Michael Aronson, Kendall Schmidt, Logan Henderson. Registered in Songfile with the Work ID DA68TP.
  • “How You Like Me Now” - Written by Jacob Michael Aronson, James Maslow, Logan Henderson, Kendall Schmidt, Max Matluck, and Nick Seeley.
  • “I Don’t Want to Wait” - Writers unknown. Played by Kendall in 2017 via Facebook livestream, where he said the song interpolates Paula Cole’s “I Don’t Want to Wait” with lyrics written by the band.
  • “If I Ever Fall Again” - Written by Carlos Pena, Jean Rodriguez, and Justin Daniels. Registered to ASCAP with the work ID 888843716.
  • “It Is What It Is” - Writers unknown. A demo recorded by Kendall was one of the many leaked on Tumblr in 2013.
  • “See Your Face” - Released by Ashley Wallbridge ft. Carlos in 2016. Registered in SGAE with performer Big Time Rush. This could either be a) originally written by Carlos for BTR or b) it was just registered under BTR because of Carlos’ association with the band.
  • “Something ‘Bout Your Love” - Written by Jacob Michael Aronson, Carlos Jose Garcia Jr, Kendall Schmidt, James Maslow, Logan Henderson, and Nick Seeley.
  • “Tonight is a Fairytale” - Writers unknown. A demo recorded by Kendall was one of the many leaked on Tumblr in 2013.
  • “What It Feels Like” - Written by Jess Cates, Lindy Robbins, and Thomas Henriksen. Registered to ASCAP with the Work ID 886027629. This song was sold to the Irish duo Jedward, who released it on their third album, Young Love. A 30-second snippet of BTR’s version was leaked on Soundcloud in 2016.
  • Unknown song recorded by Kendall ("You've got your guard up...") - Played in the BTR TikTok livestream from 4/28/2022. To me it sounds like it might be "Tip of Your Tongue" but the lyrics are hard to make out.
  • Unknown song recorded by James ("With or without your love...") - Played in the BTR TikTok livestream from 4/28/2022.

Demos/Alternate versions

  • "All Over Again" - Written by Brian Kennedy Seals, Damon Sharpe, and Drew Ryan Scott. A seven-second snippet (Kendall's line "it's over, it's over, it's not over, so here we go again yeah..." of the demo was leaked on Tumblr in October 2011. The mix is a little quieter and without the piano.
  • “Cover Girl” - Written by Kendall Schmidt, Lindy Robbins, and Toby Gad. The leaked demo, labeled a "rough mix" was leaked on Tumblr in November 2012, and features only Kendall singing.
  • “Invisible” - Written by Carlos Pena, Charley Greenberg, Cody Taylor Williams, Tekneek, and J.R. Rotem. Posted on SoundCloud by one of the publishers in 2011/2012. This mix is not as polished, and James sings the first verse before Carlos instead of Kendall and Logan.
  • “Blow Your Speakers” - Written by Matt Palmer and Pascal Guyon. This was leaked on an obscure blog website in April/May 2011 and sounds much different from the final version. The demo has a simpler instrumental with acoustic guitars, and no autotune/electronic vocals. It also starts with the chorus instead of with the first verse. The only leaked file has a watermark in the first 10 seconds or so.
  • “Confetti Falling” - Written by Big Time Rush, Jeremy Skaller, Khaled Rohaim, Rob Larow, and August Rigo. The demo version was leaked online in September 2013, and features way less autotune on the vocals, especially James' and Carlos'. Kendall and James sing the chorus together in the final version, but James' is more prominent in the demo. The guys confirmed in interviews that "Confetti Falling" was recorded in 2011, so it's possible the leaked demo is the mix from that album cycle. If not, then there is an Elevate mix that hasn't leaked.
  • “Crazy for U” - Written by Kendall Schmidt, Jeremy Skaller, Rob Larow, and Damon Sharpe. The demo was leaked on Soundcloud in April 2013 and is mostly the same as the final, though the vocal effects on the "whoah oh oh" in the beginning are much louder than in the final mix.
  • “Love Me Again” - Written by Damon Sharpe, Eric Sanicola, Talay Riley, and CJ Holland. The alternate version was "accidentally" leaked by Carlos in April 2013 when he posted a music video the guys made set to the song. The same day, the full, unedited version was leaked on Tumblr. Nickelodeon made them change the lyrics for its release on 24/Seven, so the alternate version is unreleased. There is also a different mix of this version, without the guitars: Alexa PenaVega (Carlos' wife) put it as background music in an Instagram video.
  • “24/seven” - Written by Kendall Schmidt, Logan Henderson, Damon Sharpe, Jeremy Skaller, Jamil “Digi” Chammas, Justin Lucas, and Ameerah Roelants. There are TWO different demos that have leaked - The first is the full song, but recorded only by Kendall and Logan. The second one is a little under two minutes long, also sung by Kendall and Logan, but cuts off after the second chorus.
  • “Get Up” - Written by Kendall Schmidt, Logan Henderson, Matt Squire, and Matthew Thiessen. A demo version, leaked in 2013, was recorded only by Kendall and doesn't have the electric guitars in the chorus, resulting in a much more laidback vibe.
  • “Song for You” - Written by Ryan Ogren, Nick Bailey, Rami Jrade, Megan Perry, Amy Heidemann, and Nick Noonan. The demo version features a spoken part in place of Karmin's verse in the final version, and James sings the second pre-chorus instead of Kendall. It was leaked on Soundcloud in April 2013.
  • "We Are" - Written by Jeff Halavacs, Francisca Hall, Kendall Schmidt, and Logan Henderson.
  • "Just Getting Started" - Written by Chris DeStefano, Ashley Gorley, Kendall Schmidt, and Logan Henderson. The demo, recorded only by Kendall and Logan, was leaked on Tumblr in 2013.
  • "Untouchable" - Written by Matt Squire, Kendall Schmidt, and Logan Henderson. The demo, recorded only by Kendall and Logan, was leaked on Tumblr in June 2013. There are a couple differences: The pre-chorus is repeated again after the second verse, unlike in the final version where Kendall's part cuts right to the chorus, and the chorus is only repeated once at the end instead of twice.
  • "Lost in Love" - Written by Chris DeStefano, Carlos Pena, and Jake Miller. Carlos posted a 30-second snippet of his solo demo on Instagram in 2016 (which was also circulating around 2012-2013).

Thank you for making this master post! I’m in shock at how extensive it is.

We actually got some unreleased snippets today!

One of which is Midnight Somewhere, which actually sounds cute! Can’t believe that one got rejected. And also Don’t Stop, which we already knew about/heard but is still VERY iconic and will make my body ascend if I hear them play it live lol.

Just saw those! "Midnight Somewhere" sounds absolutely phenomenal! The "BTRchive" is a must... been saying it for years

I have to listen to them closer but one part with Kendall singing sounded like "...right on the tip of your tongue" so maybe it was that one? It's a little hard to make out, but it sounds like a jam!

This is great! I used to follow these guys up to the Elevate era. I didn't really keep up during their final album cycle, but I saw that they were coming back and I'm excited for them! By any chance, could we get a zip of all their unreleased songs? I think I have some from when they were leaking on Tumblr, but I'm 100% sure it's not complete.

Of course! Here's what I've got. I believe everything in here is OG quality - at worst, a couple of the Soundcloud ones might be slightly off, since it's harder to tell when everything's all at the standard 128. Also, most of the Tumblr leaks were either 160 or 192, with the notable exception of "Don't Stop", which seems to have been re-encoded to 320. It's the only one I've never found, unless that's just how it was leaked.

A couple highlights:

- "So What" OG leak file at 256kbps. I've never seen it anywhere outside where I got it from so I don't think many people have it.

- "Lost in Love" demo snippet, from an old Instagram post by Carlos

- A different mix of the alternate "Love Me Again", it sounds more similar to the writers demo "Right Here Right Now" which is also in there. This is from an obscure Instagram account that Alexa (Carlos' wife) was posting on a couple years ago. It's almost the entire song but cuts over the last chorus. For some reason I always forget about it, but it's cool hearing it without the guitars. It sounds more like an Elevate track. Link to the post: https://www.instagram.com/p/B-DPT6mF3e7/

Hope this is useful, and let me know if anything's not working! And please, please hmu if you have something that's not in here. :)

I never got interest on Big Time Rush unreleased (I like the released stuff) until this post appeared. There is a lot of interesting information and never expected other musicians to get what was originally for BTR. I also didn't expected Simon Curtis being originally intended to be in the group, as well as the group recording Miss Movin On. I'm definitely checking out their unreleased and also doing a throwback to the officially released stuff (along with the new singles).

I love BTR so I'm definitely going to check this out!! What's funny is that a few months ago I was re-watching the series they had on Nickelodeon and one night I had a dream they announced they were going on tour in 2022 and a few days later they actually announced they were indeed touring in 2022!! Not only did I feel psychic for a sec but, honestly kinda freaked out lmao!!! Although I think they were teasing a comeback for a lil while beforehand anyways so its not that farfetched....

Thank you for these! There were a few things in here that I hadn't heard before, notably that LQ version of She Drives. I've scoured the internet for years looking for the version with the extra verse from RAS and was never able to find it. I was convinced it didn't even exist lol. I have an OLD old backup somewhere with all my BTR files, but I don't think I have anything that you don't already.

And yes, looking forward to the potential "BTRchive" they were toying around with. Don't Stop seems to pretty much be studio quality and ready for release, so I wonder how many other old finished songs they have under their belts? Or if they're going to update any of these older songs with new vocals, instrumentals, etc. that better fit with their current sound.
