CHESTER Bennington, the lead singer of rock band Linkin Park, has reportedly taken his own life.
TMZ reports the 41-year-old was found dead by a housekeeper in the bedroom of his Los Angeles home just before 9am local time (11pm AEST).
Bennington was married to Talinda Ann Bentley and had three children with her and another three children from a previous relationship.
Bennington had been open about his battles with drugs and alcohol.
He has said in the past that he considered suicide because he had been abused as a child by an older male.
His death was confirmed by fellow Linkin Park member Mike Shinoda this morning, who said a full official statement from the band was on its way:
The band were about to embark on an extensive North American tour, with the first concerts scheduled to take place on July 27 in Massachusetts.
TMZ reports that Bennington had plans with his bandmates in the morning after his death, with one bandmate arriving at his house to find police already there. He had made plans to drive Bennington to a photo shoot.
Bennington was close friends with Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell. Today would have been Cornell’s 53rd birthday.
Bennington wrote an open letter to Cornell on the day of his suicide in May and later performed Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah at the rocker’s funeral service.
Bennington also performed in Stone Temple Pilots. Scott Weiland, the lead singer of that band until Bennington replaced him in 2013, died of an accidental drug overdose in 2015.
Linkin Park had many hits, including In The End, and their album Meteroa was a huge success.

I can't say I kept up with them very much after 'What I've Done', but they had some amazing songs and he always came across like a genuinely nice person. :'( R.I.P., my heart goes out to his family, friends and fans.
