  1. Literally the one good thing to happen in 2018 was Marina and the Diamonds announcing that she was taking a hiatus from music. Now even that has been taken away from us with these Tweets she made a while ago. Why does she have to make this year even worse?
  2. Marina and the Diamonds has written an expansive letter implying that she may quit music - at least for the time being. The one hit wonder, who was once on the brink of superstardom with her songs 'Primadonna' and 'How To Be A Heartbreaker', launched an entirely new website just for the letter entitled 'marinabook'. According to Marina, starting marinabook was a way to "explore different interests" and for her to "stay connected" with her fans while she works out her identity. Fans will remember that Marina has explored different personas throughout hre career, particularly on the album Electra Heart. "I explored this in Electra Heart by deconstructing aspects of female identity in a portrayal of female archetypes," she mentioned. But it seems as though she's now trying to access the core of who she is, without the fantastical mask of a character to hide behind. Part of this apparently involves a psychology course, which Marina sees as a "brand new chapter" in her life. "I’m grateful to have the opportunity to explore different interests," she said, adding that "I am indeed going through my “what should I do with the rest of my life” phase that most people go through at 21." Check out the full letter below and let us know what you think in the comments section!
  3. Share your theories about the Electra's story My theory: PART 1: ♡ "BEAUTY QUEEN" ♡ Here, we see a young Electra. She was a troubled girl (with depression, i guess). She grow up seeing movies with hollywood stars, beauty queens, hot blondes that she decided to be one of them. She adored these thing so much that she became one of them. SONGS: 1 - Bubblegum Bitch 2 - Primadonna 3 - Radioactive I put radioactive 'cuz, in my point, she is a young girl looking for trouble, the guy only call she at night to get out and have fun, she is falling in love but she didn't want to 'cuz she learn in the movies that beauty queens doesnt fall in love. PART 2: ♡ "HOUSEWIFE" ♡ Electra, now, is married. She is in love but the guy doesn't love her no more. She don't sing about when he love her cuz hurts a lot. But she know that he is lying about the love. She knows that something is wrong with the relationship but with her too. She always want more because she "learn" that the life after marriage is perfect but it's not. In Sex Yeah, she decided to leave all the movies behind. But her heart is broken. In Power & Control is her transition from the housewife to homewrecker. SONGS: 4 - Lies 5 - Starring Role 6 - The State Of Dreaming 7 - Hypocrates 8 - Buy the Stars 9 - Sex Yeah 10 - Power & Control PART 3 ♡ "HOMEWRECKER" ♡ Electra is hurt and with her heartbroken. She didn't believe in love anymore. She decide to have fun and break hearts too. 11 - Homewrecker 12 - E.V.O.L 13 - How to Be a Heartbreaker PART 4 ♡ "IDLE TEEN | THE END" ♡ Electra have fun but she isn't happy, she was missing something and when she discover what she is missing she know that she wasn't living for herself. She was living for the archetypes. She was living dead. She felt like a tennager, without any experiences to share. She knows that the problems isn't new, they started because her troubled adolescence. Her problems with her parents, friends and self esteem 14 - Lonely Hearts Club 15 - Living Dead 16 - Teen Idle 17 - Valley of the Dolls 18 - Fear and Loathing In the end, Electra kills herself. She was just a depressive girl with a broken heart. In the end of Fear and Loathing have Diamandis's grandmother singing an old Greek folk song and for me is kinda of Electra coming in to paradise(???). I believe that the beats describe her thoughts. The animated songs is when she is happy or nervous and the slow songs is when she is sad (BUT DEPEND OF THE LYRICS OF THE SONG).
  4. Charli XCX and Marina & The Diamonds have become embroiled in a predictably petty Twitter dispute over a recent photoshoot that XCX participated in. The formerly friendly English alt=pop stars and one-time collaborators on fan favourite 'Just Desserts' took shots at each other over social media recently following a photoshoot that XCX worked on with photographer Charlotte Rutherford for a new fragrance she has concocted with Impulse UK. The drama began on Rutherford's page, when an innocent upload turned into a battle ground after Marina (@marinagrams) called out the singer for their allegedly similar styling. Marina, of course, is alluding to the album artwork for her single 'Immortal', which was also shot by Rutherford and which featured a similarly tropical kitsch setting. Not content with one social media complaint, the star who once found success with single 'Primadonna' later took to Twitter to sub-tweet XCX, with a passive aggressive remark which seemed to insinuate that the style was in some way original. XCX took the higher ground in a longer response posted to Instagram and Tweeted to Diamonds, going on to clarify "fyi i'm not shading/dragging/beefing. that's not something I do. I'm just being direct and setting the record straight." Given the duo's penchant for a Tumblr-inspired aesthetic and the ridiculously large egos of both involved, we're not surprised that the two have had a falling out, although the pettiness behind such a large rift is undeniably bizaare. Rutherford's imagery, while beautiful, is hardly unique, and to claim that one image was ripping off another would be to say that every Terry Richardson black and white polaroid was a mimicry of the last. What do you think of Diamonds' accusations? Are her actions justified, or is she overblowing the situation? Let us know in the comments section below!
  5. Fans of British indie-pop star Marina & The Diamonds are in for a real New Years treat today. After months of teasing, Marina's cover of Cyndi Lauper's classic gay rights anthem 'True Colors' has finally leaked online! 'True Colors' is a relatively recent song that was written during the FROOT sessions back in 2014. Originally, the song was first intended to be used in conjunction with a piece Marina wrote for World Aids Day back in December of that year, and plans were made to include it in a video interview she was conducting on the day. Allegedly, however, Marina's team was unable to gain clearance quickly enough for the song to be released and the track was moved to the back burner. Later, it was considered to be placed on a re-release of the FROOT album, alongside tracks like 'Disconnect', which featured Clean Bandit and was performed live at Coachella; and 'I'm Not Hungry Anymore', which leaked in snippet form earlier this year. However, Marina later decided to scrap the FROOT re-release in August of last year, once again leaving the song homeless. For those who have been living under a rock for the past thirty years, 'True Colors' is a track sung and produced by Cyndi Lauper and first released on the 1986 album of the same name. Written by icon Billy Steinberg about his elderly mother, the track was later dedicated to Lauper's best friend who had died from AIDS, and thus became an anthem for the gay community who was struggling with the disease at the time. What do you think of Marina's cover of 'True Colors'? Is the original always the best or has she done Cyndi justice? Let us know in the comments down below!
